English II Magical Realism Unit Syllabus
May 6th to May 10th  
Magical Realism: is a genre where magic elements are a natural part in an otherwise mundane, realistic environment.[1] Although it is most commonly used as a literary genre, magic realism also applies to film and the visual arts.

Purposes
o    9-10.RL.2 Determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze in detail its development over the course of the text, including how it emerges and is shaped and refined by specific details; provide an objective summary of the text.

Objective
·          Identify differences between magical realism and other genres to which they have already been introduced.
·          Identify and discuss literary elements of magical realism.
·          Demonstrate understanding of the elements of magical realism through their impromptu interpretive dramas.
